The Next -Level Making a Difference Summer Program

This engaging, inspiring and interactive program will teach youth age 12-15 how to prioritize, create a sense of balance and purpose in their lives and how to make positive life choices.  The experience in this program will enable the participants to develop ideas and strategies that they will be able to implement in their lives that will not only make them better, stronger and more capable citizens, but will make them better, stronger more capable students!  This dynamic program will include group exercises and discussions on Bullying, Childhood Obesity, Internet Safety, Gang Intervention, Snitching, Drug Prevention and being a Latchkey Child.  Participants will also take part in creating a wall mural and replanting a flower garden at the District V station.

The Next-Level Making a Difference Summer Program will meet every Friday, beginning July 16 thru August 20, 2010 at the District V Prince George’s County Police Department located at 6707 Groveton Drive, Clinton, Maryland from 6 pm – 9 pm.  The program will be facilitated and staffed by sworn law enforcement officers with assistance from community and youth volunteers and leaders.

Free IT Training for 18-24 year olds who live in the DC, MD, or VA. If you know any one with a high school diploma or a GED who are between the ages of 18-24 yrs old and have an interest in IT. Refer them to this site http://www.yearup.org  to learn more about this free program. This program asks for a 1 year commitment between the hours of 8:30 am and 5:00 pm. They provide the student with a stipend and after six months, internships at companies such as Freddie Mac and AOL to name a few. Check out the website. About Year Up: Year Up is a one-year, intensive training program that provides urban young adults 18-24, with a unique combination of technical and professional skills, college credits, an educational stipend and corporate apprenticeship. Enabling them to move on to full-time  employment and higher education. Year Up is about providing opportunities for urban young adults to demonstrate their true potential. We have achieved excellent results to date:  
100% placement of qualified students into apprenticeships
83% student retention
90% of apprentices meet or exceed apprenticeship partner expectations
87% of graduates placed in full or part-time positions within 4 months of graduation $15/hr average wage at placement

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is looking for energetic and highly motivated students for summer employment.  Numerous opportunities are available within EPA for students to gain valuable work experience while contributing to the mission of protecting human health and safeguarding the environment.  Student summer employment opportunities are available at EPA’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., and at regional office and laboratory locations nationwide. 

The Student Summer Employment Program will be used for most of our summer hiring.  EPA primarily hires high school and college students for administrative/clerical positions as well technical positions in areas such as life sciences, program or policy analysis, and engineering.  Most summer positions have salaries ranging from the GS-2 to GS-7 level (a base hourly rate of $9.59 to $16.28, excluding locality pay).  Students must meet the qualifications described below plus additional requirements, dependent upon the grade level of the position and needs of the organization. 

Basic Eligibility Qualifications:

  • You must be a student.  A student is an individual who is enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, college, university, or technical or vocational school.
  • Students must be in good academic standing with at least a GPA of “C” or its equivalent.
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • You must be age 16 at time of employment. 
  • A work permit is required for students age 16.
  • In addition to a resume, eligible veterans should submit a copy of their DD Form 214 to the hiring office and EPA's Veterans Coordination Office (EPAVeterans@epa.gov).  Please be sure to identify the position for which you are applying and the name of the organization contact for that position on the Veterans Coordination Office copy.

FAA SUMMER EMPLOYMENT!

 

Summer Employment Initiative for High School and College Students 

The FAA is seeking students for summer employment.  The Summer Employment Initiativeis designed to attract talented students to the workforce for summer employment opportunities into entry-level positions and provide positive work and developmental experience. 

 Position Openings:

      Miscellaneous Clerk and Assistant, FV-303-C

      Management Assistant, FV-344-D

      Management and Program Analyst, FV-343-F

      Engineering Technician, FV-802-F

 

Duty locations: FAA Headquarters, all regions, and centers and some field locations.

 

Note: Specific FAA duty locations will be posted on website announcement.

 

FAA regions and centers (field locations) will post separate vacancy announcements.

 

Eligibility: Applicant must be a student who meets all the following requirements:

      United States Citizen

      Enrolled or accepted in a half-time or full-time course schedule;

      Age 16 or older (by the closing date of the announcement); and

      Possess a grade point average of 2.0 or above

on a scale of 4.0.

Appointment Type: Temporary appointment

 Duration: Not to exceed 6 months

Must be at least the minimum age required by Federal, state, or local laws and standards governing the employment of minors. Students must be taking at least half-time course load, as defined by their academic institution; and must maintain a 2.0 grade point average on a scholastic average scale of 4.0.
